Soil pH in an alpine-subalpine watershed on Niwot Ridge, Colorado. The lighter brown areas are alpine tundra and the darker green areas are willow shrubs and coniferous trees. Each point represents a soil core I collected in summer 2006. Measurements of pH were made on bulked composites of 3-10 cores, which is why there are sets of adjacent points with identical values.
